Cambridge, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team competed at the 2019 DIII New England Championships this weekend, hosted by MIT at the Johnson Athletic Center, placing 20th overall with a total of 3.5 points.

How It Happened

The Falcons were paced by sophomore Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.), who earned DIII NE honors with a fifth place jump of 1.90 meters in the high jump, while the 4000 meter distance medley relay team of senior Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.), freshman Michael Masterson (Pepperell, Mass.), classmate Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) and sophomore Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) posted a 15th place time of 11:04.66. Senior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) was also strong for the Falcons, notching a ninth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 8.64 seconds.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Masterson, junior Zachary Joseph (Hyde Park, Mass.), sophomore Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) and newcomer Cody Soderlund (Middleborough, Mass.) posted a time of 3:41.38 with an 18th place finish, while the 4x800m relay team of J. Darrigo, senior Ryan Stopka (Rochester, Mass.), Sachetta and sophomore Timothy Sheehy (Wakefield, R.I.) rounded out the top efforts for the Falcons after finishing 16th overall with a solid time of 8:45.22.
