Fields, McWhinnie-Armstead & Digman notch DIII NE qualifying marks for Green and Gold

Cambridge, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team competed at the 2020 Greater Boston Track Club Invitational this afternoon, hosted by Harvard University.

How It Happened

Freshman Adam Digman (Winchendon, Mass.) led the way for Fitchburg State, placing second overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a DIII New England qualifying time of 8.68 seconds, while sophomore Trevor Fields (Shirley, Mass.) notched a DIII NE qualifying time of 1:24.88 in the 800 meter after claiming top honors in the event.

Junior Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) was also solid for the Falcons, finishing first overall in the high jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 1.95 meters, while classmate Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) took first place in the 3000 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 9:07.15.

In the 400 meter, newcomers Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) (53.77) and Chris Morales (Lynn, Mass.) (53.75) notched MASCAC qualifying time after placing tenth and 11th, while junior Joe Weston (Middleton, Mass.) turned in a post-season qualifying time of 4:53.57 in the mile with a 19th place effort.

Junior Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) registered a seventh place, MASCAC qualifying time of 7.26 seconds in the 60 meter dash, while newcomer Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) posted a time of 9.17 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles to place fifth overall.

In the 200 meter, Felix (8th) and Monteiro (11th) posted post-season qualifying times of 23.85 seconds and 24.00 seconds, while junior James Casale (Wakefield, Mass.) finished 17th in the 1000 meter with time of 3:17.76.

In the field, freshmen Zanthius Collins (Franklin, Mass.) (third) and Joseph Asare (Brockton, Mass.) (sixth) registered MASCAC qualifying marks in the shotput of 11.75m and 11.25m, while in the triple jump, Jalen Simpson and newcomer Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) added post season qualifying jumps of 12.46 meters and 12.28 meters after finishing fifth and sixth respectively.

In the long jump, sophomore Brandon McNeil (8), Shimiyimana (9) and Sacramon (10) all qualified for MASCAC's with jumps of 6.11m, 6.05m and 6.03m, while Sacramone added a fifth place finish in the high jump with post-season qualifying height of 1.85 meters.

Sophomore Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) finished fourth in the 800 meter with a MASCA qualifying time of 2:04.15, while newcomer Samuel Flint (Methuen, Mass.) registered a post-season qualifying time of 9:43.59 in the 3000 meter. Asare rounded out the top efforts for the Green and Gold on the day, finishing fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 8.77 meters.
