Falcons Excel At Branwen Smith-King Invite

Manyok takes pair of top honors to pace Green and Gold

Medford, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team placed fifth overall with total of 48 points as the Falcons competed at the 2023 Brawen Smith-King Invitational this afternoon, hosted by Tufts University.

How It Happened

Junior Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) paced the Falcons after placing first overall in the 5000 meter with a personal best and DIII NE qualifying time of 15:22.84 in addition to taking top honors in the 3000 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 8:58,76, while senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) finished first in the triple jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.74 meters as well as placing fourth in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying jump of 6.42 meters.

In the 1000 meter, sophomores Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, Mass.) (7th) and Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) (9th) posted post-season qualifying times of 2:48.13 and 2:54.34, while senior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) notched a MASCAC qualifying time of 9.74 seconds with a 14th place effort in the 60 meter hurdles.

The 4x400 meter relay team of junior Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.), senior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.), freshman Brady Madigan (Ayer, Mass.) and Bueno Campos placed fifth with a solid time of 3:58.84, while newcomer Cole Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) posted a personal best mark of 4.28 meters in the long jump.

In the 400 meter, freshman Paul Michaelidis (Acton, Mass.) (58.82) and Madigan (59.94) finished 22nd and 26th, while newcomer Liam Bourassa (Shirley, Mass.) (19th) and Michaelidis (22nd) added time of 7.67 and 7.73 seconds in the 60 meter dash.

In the field, Bourassa netted a pair of MASCAC qualifying marks in the high jump (1.75M) (8th) and the shotput (12.98M) (4th), while newcomer Hayden Frew (Brockton, Mass.) finished 20th in the weight throw (8.69M) and 16th in the shotput (10.37M)

Rounding out the top Falcons efforts on the afternoon were sophomore Cameron Monette (Winchendon, Mass.), who placed 17th in the shotput (10.27M) and 21st in the weight throw (8.29M), while junior Elijah Stathis (Northampton, Mass.) (5:36.06) (mile) and freshman Omar Elmi (Worcester, Mass.) (1:38.58) (600M) placed 11th and tenth respectively.
