Falcons Shine At Wesleyan Indoor Invite

Manyok and Bourassa net top honors for Green and Gold

Middletown, Conn. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team returned to action this afternoon as they competed at the 2023 Wesleyan Indoor Invite at the Bacon Field House on the campus of Wesleyan University.

How It Happened

Junior Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) paced the Green and Gold, taking top honors in 1000 meter with a DIII NE qualifying time of 2;37.89, while adding a second place post-season qualifying time of 4:36.45 in the mile. Freshman Liam Bourassa (Shirley, Mass.) was also solid for the Falcons, placing first overall in the shotput (13.01M) and seventh in the weight throw (10.98M) to qualify for the post-season in both events.

In the mile, junior Cameron Davis (Gardner, Mass.) (5:05.61) and sophomore Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn) (5:09.17) placed eighth and ninth, while in the freshman Phills Lebbie (Worcester, Mass.) finished second in the 60 meter dash with a MASCAC qualifying time of 7.19 seconds.

In the 60 meter dash, senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) (7th) and Bourassa (12th) turned in times of 7.64 seconds and 7.74 seconds, while in the 800 meter, sophomore Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, Mass.) (2:05.88) and junior Andrew Bedard (Rutland, Mass.) (2:18.74) finished third and ninth.

Freshman Nicholas Polanco (Miami, Fla.) posted a solid seventh place time of 1:00.80 in the 400 meter, while junior Elijah Stathis (Northampton, Mass.) notched a time of 11:46.35 in the 3000 meter after finishing third overall.

In the field, Shimiyimana placed third overall in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying jump of 6.15 meters and second in the triple jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.45 meters, while sophomore Cameron Monette (Winchendon, Mass.) registered a post-season qualifying toss of 11.45 meters in the shotput (6th).

In the long jump, junior Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.) (11th) and senior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (13th) posted marks of 5.41M and 5.23M, while Monette added a tenth place toss of 10.05 meters in the weight throw.

Rounding out the top Falcons efforts on the afternoon were Cattelan (8th) in the 1000 meter and Lebbe (12th) in the 200 meter with times of 3:00.28 and 25.08 respectively.
