Falcons Soar At Panther Invitational
Manyok and Shimiyimana notch pair of top honors for Green and Gold
Plymouth, N.H. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team returned to action this afternoon as they competed at the 2023 Panther Invitational, hosted by Plymouth State, placing second overall with a total of 101 points.

How It Happened
Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) pace the Green and Gold, earning top honors in the triple jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.56 meters as well as placing first overall in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying jump of 6.44 meters, while junior Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) finished first overall in the 800 meter (2:03.32) and the 3000 meter (8:58.00) to qualify for MASCAC's.
In the 1000 meter, sophomore Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, Mass.) (2:54.45), classmate Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) (2:59.05), senior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) (3:10.05) and freshman Michael Burns (Worcester, Mass.) (3:10.50) finished fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, while in mile, junior Cameron Davis (Gardner, Mass.) (9th), LaBombard (12th) and junior Elijah Stathis (Northampton, Mass.) (13th) notched times of 5:01.56, 5:17.47 and 5:21.58 respectively.
In the 60 meter, senior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) placed fourth with a MASCAC qualifying time of 7.30 second, while newcomer Liam Bourassa (Shirley, Mass.) finished 17th overall with a time of 7.68 seconds.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Cattelan, freshman Paul Michaelidis (Acton, Mass.), Bueno Campos and newcomer Omar Elmi (Worcester, Mass.) placed second with a time of 3:56.96, while Burns placed eighth overall in the 5000 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 18:05.87.
In the field, sophomore Cameron Monette (Winchendon, Mass.) (12.70M) and Bourassa (12.17) placed third and fifth in the weight throw to qualify for the post-season, while in the shotput, Bourassa (13.05M), newcomer Hayden Frew (Brockton, Mass.) (10.93M) and Monette (10.59M) finished second, eighth and tenth.
In the long jump, junior Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.) turned in a fourth place, MASCAC qualifying mark of 5.90 meters, while Bourassa added a fifth place effort in the high jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 1.65 meters.
Michaelidis (56.54) and Elmi (58.72) finished 13th and 16th in the 400 meter, while in the 200 meter, Felix (4th) and junior Ryan Parisi (Gloucester, Mass.) (20th) posted times of 24.19 seconds and 29.04 seconds to round out the top Falcon efforts on the day.
