Falcons Shine At Reggie Poyau Invitational

Monette and Bourassa qualify for DIII NE's in the weight throw

Waltham, MA. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team placed fifth overall with a total of 62 points at the 2024 Reggie Poyau Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University at the Gosman Sports Center.

How It Happened

Sophomore Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the way for the Falcons, placing third overall in the shotput with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 14.36 meters as well as finishing sixth in the weight throw with a DIII NE qualifying toss of 14.39 meters, while junior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) notched a DIII New England qualifying toss of 14.38 meters in the weight throw after finishing seventh overall as well as placing fifth in the shot put with a throw of 12.86 meters.

Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, MA) finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.77 meters and seventh in the long jump (5.83M), while in the mile, junior Joshua Leaffer (North Andover, MA) placed 18th with a time of 5:39.94. In the 60 meter, newcomer Keenan Ansah (Plymouth, MA) (20th), classmate Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) (35th) and junior Matthew Radder (West Seneca, NY) (40th) turned times of 7.43, 7.72 and 7.82 seconds, while freshman Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) finished 15th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 11.99 seconds.

Senior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, MA) (56.32) and freshman Alvaro Castillo-Clottier Jr (Palmer, MA) (58.77) finished 12th and 14th in the 400 meter, while in the 600 meter, newcomer Jesse Moriello (Saugus, MA) (4th) and sophomore Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) (6th) turned in times of 1:32.98 and 1:37.61.

In the 800 meter, Gill posted an eighth place time of 2:34.70, while Castillo-Clottier Jr (11th) and Ansah (26th) notched times of 23.88 and 24.56 seconds in the 200 meter. In the 3000 meter, senior Cameron Davis (Gardner, MA) and sophomore Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) finished 11th and 26th with times of 9:57.71 and 10:01.79 respectively.

In the field, Castillo-Clottier Jr finished 16th in the long jump (5.09M) and tenth in the triple jump (10.71M), while sophomore Cole Donelan (Fitchburg, MA) notched an 18th place effort in the long jump. Freshman Maximus Lajoie (Worcester, MA) added an 11th place finish in the triple jump, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Castillo-Clottier Jr, Madigan, Ansah and Moriello placed fifth overall with a time of 3:53.93 to round out the top Falcon efforts on the day.
