Fitchburg State Opens At Tufts University

Sattiewhite qualifies for DIII NE's in high jump to pace men: Woolley posts DIII NE qualifying time in 100m hurdles to lead women

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track & field teams opened the 2015 season this afternoon as they competed at the 2015 Snowflake Classic hosted by Tufts University.

On the men's side, freshman Ben Sattiewhite took top honors in the high jump, posting a MASCAC and DIII New England qualifying jump of 1.98 meters, while senior Maximin Rocheleau collected a post-season qualifying mark of 3.55m in the pole vault with a sixth place finish.

Newcomer Chavinskee Milcent also earned a pair of MASCAC qualifying marks in the high jump (1.78m) and in the long jump (6.30m), while junior Akhiel Willis posted a MASCAC qualifying time jump of 13.10 meters in the triple jump.

On the track, senior Phillip Saint-Juste, sophomore Nicholas Levenson and freshman Kevin McDonald all notched MASCAC times of 15.80, 17.19 and 17.79 seconds respectively in the 110m hurdles with Saint-Juste also qualifying for DIII NE's as well, while Levenson added a second post-season qualifying time of 62/02 seconds in the 400 meter hurdles.

In the 100 meter, sophomore Ousmane Samb (11.59) and junior Kwaku Mensah (11.61) placed ninth and 15th respectively to qualify for MASCAC's, while newcomer Jake Hastings turned in a time post-season qualifying time of 4:30.01 in the 1500 meter.

Round out the top Falcons efforts were junior Richard Ethier, IV (tenth) and sophomore Chauncey Beatty (12th) in the 400 meter with MASCAC qualifying time of 52.79 seconds and 53.12 seconds respectively.

For the ladies, freshman Annie Woolley placed third overall in the 100 meter hurdles with a MASCAC and DIII NE qualifying time of 15.90 seconds, while senior Natasha McInnis notched a MASCAC qualifying time of 12.99 seconds in the 100m dash with a second place finish.

Senior Rebecca McClure was also strong in the pole vault, placing third overall with a post-season qualifying mark of 3.30m, while newcomer Jenna Phelps turned in a ninth place effort in the 400 meter with a time of 63.73 seconds to qualify for MASCAC's.

Freshman Holly Sessler added a pair of MASCAC qualifiers in the 400 meter hurdles (76.59) and in the high jump (1.38m), while seniors Jenae Harrison (5:13.02) and Braila Roy (5:37.28) notched MASCAC qualifying times in the 1500 meter.

On the track junior Jessica Mangan turned in a post-season qualifying time of 45:43.26 in the 10,000m, while freshman Sadie Zbikowski posted a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:43.03 in the 800 meter.

Freshman Amanda Remie and junior Shamira Nambafu both qualified for MASCAC's in the 100m with times of 13.35 and 14.50 seconds, the 4x100 meter relay team of McInnis, Woolley, Remie and newcomer Cassie Lavallee collected a post-season qualifying time of 56..03 seconds.

In the field, sophomore Morgan Steele registered a pair of MASCAC qualifying tosses in the hammer throw (39.75m) and in the shot put (9.59m), while senior Sarah Elliott added a post-season qualifying throw of 6.30 meters in the shot put. Sophomore Emilee Felton rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the women's side with a MASCAC qualifying toss of 31.98 meters in the javelin.

The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track & field teams return to action next Saturday as it hosts the 2015 Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet, beginning at 10 a.m.
