Fitchburg State Hosts Jim Sheehan Meet

Women's 4x100 relay qualifies for DIII NE's: Sattiewhite paces men with ECAC qualifying marks in the high jump

FITCHBURG, Mass.– The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track & field teams were in action this afternoon as they hosted the 2015 Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet at Elliot Field.

For the men, senior Eric Ouellette took top honors in the 10,000 meter with a DIII New England qualifying time of 32:35.55, while freshman Ben Sattiewhite recorded an ECAC qualifying mark of 1.93m in high jump to take top honors.

Freshmen Jake Hastings, Liam Eble and Daniel Fournier, sophomore Joseph Little and junior Michael Martin notched MASCAC qualifying times of 4:20.79, 4:36.09, 4:39.52, 4:36.88 and 4:40.23 respectively, while senior Phillip Saint-Juste placed first overall in the 110 meter hurdles with a DIII NE qualifying time of 15/89 seconds.

On the track, sophomore Chauncey Beatty, junior Richard Ethier, IV and senior Jim Quinlan finished fifth (1:59.76), seventh (2:00.01)and 18th (2:06.17) respectively in the 800 meter qualify for the MASCAC's, while  in the 400m hurdles senior Ethan Gorecki (5th) and sophomore Nicholas Levenson (6th) notched post-season qualifying times of 1:00.05 and 1:00.85.

In the field, Gorecki placed eighth in the javelin with a throw of 47.14 meters to qualify for the MASCAC's, while junior Akhiel Willis posted post-season honors in the triple jump (5th) with mark of 6.23 meters. Levenson and junior Jaime Rullo added MASCAC qualifying marks of 5.85m and 5.52 meters

Newcomer Chavinskee Milcent placed third overall in the high jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.83 meters,  while classmate Timothy Breen collected a post-season qualifying mark of 3.80m with a third place effort in the pole vault.

Freshman Joseph Bernardini posted a pair of MASCAC qualifying throws in the discus (34.68m) and the shot put (11.31m), while junior Timothy Allen was also strong in the 5000m, turning a post-season qualifying time of 17:24.31 to round out the top Falcons performances on the men's side.

On the women's side, the 4x100m relay team of seniors Rachel Blanchard, Arthina Robert, Natasha McInnis and freshman Annie Woolley led the way for the women's squad, posting a DII NE qualifying time of 51.51 seconds with a third place finish.

On the track, Robert (4th), McInnis (12th) and Blanchard all registered post-season qualifying times of 13.20, 13.61 and 14.15 seconds respectively in the 100m, while senior Jenae Harrison registered a fourth place finish in the 800 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:27.27

Sophomore Kelly McCarthy placed eighth overall in the 3000m steeple chance with a MASCAC qualifying time of 13:37.31, while Woolley notched a post-season qualifying time of 17.73 seconds with a seventh place finish in the 100m hurdles.

In the 1500 meter run, newcomer Nicole Gaffney put forth a strong effort with a MASCAC qualifying time of 5:18.36, while junior Jessica Mangan finished strong in the event as well with a post-season qualifying time of 5:57.82. Harrison (10th) and Robert posted MASCAC qualifying times of 27.71 and 28.46 seconds in the 200 meter dash

In the field, senior Sarah Elliott collected a pair of MASCAC qualifying throws in the discus (10th) 28.72m and in the shot put (21st) 9.07m, while sophomore Morgan Steele registered a MASCAC qualifying toss of 10.01 meters to finish 11th in the shot put. Sophomore Emilee Felton put forth a solid ninth place finish in the javelin with a throw of 31.23 meters to qualify for MASCAC's

Sophomore Sadie Zbikowski (8th) and newcomer Michaella Vecchiarelli (10th) posted MASCAC qualifying marks of 2.30m and 2.15m in the pole vault, while Steele notched a post-season qualifying mark of 39.71m in the hammer throw with a sixth place finish. Mangan rounded out the top Falcon efforts for the women, turning a MASCAC qualifying time of 22:07.51.

The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track & field teams return to action on Saturday as they compete at the 2015 Wildcat invitational host by the University of New Hampshire starting at 10 a.m.
