Fitchburg State Takes On UNH Wildcat Invite

Robert qualifies of ECAC"s in the 100m to lead women: Saint-Juste paces men with DIII NE qualifying time in 110m hurdles

DURHAM, N.H. – The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track & field teams were in action this afternoon as they competed at the 2015 Wildcat Invitational hosted by the University of New Hampshire this afternoon.

Senior Phillip Saint-Juste paved the way for the men, earning second place honors in the in the 110 meter hurdles with a DIII New England qualifying time of 15.22 seconds, while also placing eighth overall in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 6.01 meters.

Freshman Timothy Breen (fourth) and graduate student Pat Conaty (sixth) collected DIII NE qualifying marks of 4.11m each in the pole vault, while newcomer Ben Sattiewhite continued his outstanding efforts in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying jump of 1.90 meters.

Sophomore Ousmane Samb turned in a sixth place finish in the 100m with a DIII NE qualifying time of 11.30 seconds, while junior Richard Ethier, IV notched a post-season qualifying time of 53.17 seconds in the 400m to place seventh.

In the 1500 meter, freshmen Jake Hastings (4:22.35),  Matthew Cuomo (4:34.88) and Liam Eble (4:36.51), senior Jim Quinlan (4:29.43) and sophomore Chauncey Beatty (4:35.57) all qualified for MASCAC's, while junior Michael Martin posted a post-season time of 17:25.37 in the 5,000 meter.

On the track, the men's 4x100 relay team of Samb, junior Akhiel Willis, classmate Joshua Brewster and freshman Kevin McDonald turned in a third place finish with a time of 45.44 seconds, while junior Timothy Allen ran an 11:25.33 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to qualify for MASCAC's.

In the 100 meter dash, freshman Tapiwa Mungate (11.61), junior Eric Custadio (11.69) and Willis (11.74) all notched MASCAC qualifying times, while senior Ethan Gorecki registered a post-season qualifying time of 1:00.66 in the 400m hurdles.

In the field, freshman Joseph Bernardini collected a pair of MASCAC qualifying tosses in the shot put (11.27m) and in the discus (31.66m), while Willis and Conaty qualified for MASCAC's in the long jump with marks of 5.93 meters and 5.77 meters. Gorecki closed out the top performances for the men with a MASCAC qualifying toss of 47.02m in the javelin.

For the ladies, senior Arthina Robert led the way for the women, placing third overall in the 100 meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 12.40 seconds, while newcomer Annie Woolley posted an ECAC qualifying time of 15.49 seconds in the 100m hurdles with a second place finish.

 Senior Rebecca McClure placed fourth in the pole vault with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 3.12 meters, while freshman Jenna Phelps registered a DIII NE qualifying time of 1:09.22  in the 400m hurdles with a third place effort.

In the 100m senior Rachel Blanchard (11th), Woolley (12th) and freshman Amanda Remie (13th) notched MASCAC qualifying times of 13.44, 13.55 and 13.64 respectively, while McClure (27.21) and Robert (27.56) collected their second post season qualifiers on the afternoon, placing ninth and 12th overall in the 200 meter.

On the track, senior Jenae Harrison turned in a fourth place finish in the 400m with a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:02.44, while sophomore Sadie Zbikowski ((2:33.50) and senior Braila Roy (2:35.43) finished 12th and 13th in the 800m to qualify for MASCAC's.

Newcomer Nicole Gaffney was also strong in the 1500 meter, placing sixth with a post-season time of 5:18.19, while classmate Holly Sessler posted a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:15.22 to finish seventh in the 400m hurdles.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team Harrison, Zbikowski, Blanchard and senior Karollynn Wickless-Adams finished in a time of 4:30.12 to place third overall, while sophomore Emilee Felton finished sixth in the javelin with a MASCAC qualifying toss of 30.5050m.

In the field, sophomore Morgan Steele registered collegiate personal best and MASCAC qualifying toss of 10.42 meters in the shot put, while adding a post-season qualifying throw of 30.97m in the hammer throw.

Senior Sarah Elliott registered a pair of MASCAC qualifying marks in the discus (30.97m) and the shot put (9,12m(, while junior Angelica Picucci (4.15m) and newcomer Melody Francis (4.09m) added post-season qualifying marks in the long jump. In the pole vault, Zbikowski and freshman Michaella Vecchiarelli rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the women's side with MASCAC qualifying heights of 2.67m and 2.52m.

The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track & field teams return to action next Saturday as they host the 2015 Eric Loeschner Meet, starting at 10 a.m.
