Fitchburg State Claims Fourth At MASCAC Championships
Women place fourth with 99 points: Men earn fourth with 74 points
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the 2015 New England Alliance/MASCAC Championship this afternoon hosted by Fitchburg State University.
Leading the way on the men's side was senior Eric Ouellette, claiming top honors in the 10,000 meter with an Alliance/MASCAC championship and ECAC qualifying time of 32:15.29, while senior Ethan Gorecki qualified for ECAC's in the javelin with a fourth place toss of 53.71 meters.
Freshman Ben Sattiewhite placed second in the high jump with a personal best and an ECAC qualifying jump of 1.98 meters, while freshman Chavinskee Milcent was also strong, placing seventh in the long jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 6.46 meters.
On the track, senior Phillip Saint-Juste placed third in the 110m hurdles with a DIII NE qualifying time of 15.75 seconds, while sophomore Nicholas Levenson notched a DIII New England qualifying time of 57.29.
Sophomore Chauncey Beatty placed fourth overall in the 800m with DIII New England qualifying time of 1:57.27, while junior Timothy Allen turned in a time of 16:55.06 in the 5000 meter to finish sixth.
Allen turned in a solid time of 10:59.44 in the 3000m steeplechase, while in the 1500, freshman Jake Hastings (6th) and classmate Daniel Fournier (9th) and registered times of 4:12.07 and 4:28.84.
The men's 4x800 meter relay team of junior Richard Ethier, IV, senior Jim Quinlan, Beatty and Hastings posted an ECAC qualifying time of 8:08.57 with a third place finish, while junior Akhiel Willis finished sixth overall in the triple jump with a mark of 12.41 meters.
In the field, freshman Timothy Breen added a third place finish in the pole vault with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 4.15m, while graduate student Pat Conaty followed in sixth with DIII NE qualifying vault of 4.15m to round out the top Fitchburg State men's efforts.
Paving the way for the women was freshman Annie Woolley who placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 15.64 seconds, while sophomore Morgan Steele registered an ECAC qualifying throw of 44.31 meters to place second in the event.
Sophomore Emilee Felton was also strong, registering a DIII NE qualifying throw of 35.76m in the javelin, freshman Jenna Phelps finished second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 68.35 seconds to qualifying for DIII NE's. Senior Rebecca McClure placing second overall in the pole vault, with a DIII New England qualifying vault of 3.05m.
Senior Jenae Harrison captured the MASAC/Alliance crown in the 800m with a DIII NE qualifying time of 2:20.37, while senior Arthina Robert put forth a solid time of 12.88 seconds in the 100 meter to claim the MASCAC Championship.
Sophomore Kelly McCarthy placed seventh overall in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 13:15.30 to set a personal best in the process, while senior Braila Roy placed sixth overall in 1500m with a time of 5:19.44.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Robert, senior Rachel Blanchard, classmate Natasha McInnis and freshman Amanda Remie placed second with a time of 51.99 seconds, while the 4x400m relay team of Phelps, Roy, Harrison and sophomore Sadie Zbikowski posted a time of 4:13.70 with a third place effort.
Senior Sarah Elliott placed third in the discus with a solid toss of 30.63 meters, while sophomore Steele registered a toss of 10.46m with a seventh place effort in the shot put.
Zbikowski placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 2.60 meters, while newcomer Michaella Vecchiarelli finished in fifth with a vault of 2.30m. In the high jump, freshman Holly Sessler posted a mark of 1.43m to finish seventh. Sophomore Melody Francis rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the women's side with a ninth place finish in the long jump with a mark of 4.41 meters.
The Fitchburg State men's and women's track and field teams will be in action again next weekend as members compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted MIT, starting on Friday at 4 p.m.
