Fitchburg State Soars at DIII New England Championships

Zbikowski sets new PR in the pole vault to pace women; Sattiewhite registers ECAC qualifying mark to lead the men

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed in the 2015 DIII New England Championships hosted by MIT over the weekend.

For the men, freshman Ben Sattiewhite led the way, earning All-New England honors with an ECAC qualifying mark of 1.93 meters with a third place finish in the high jump, while senior Ethan Gorecki placed tenth in the javelin with a toss of 49.06 meters.

Sophomore Chauncey Beatty was strong in the 800 meter, registering a personal best time of 1:57.27, while junior Akhiel Willis posted a tenth place effort in the triple jump with a personal best jump of 13.43m.

The 4x100 meter relay team of junior Eric Custadio, classmate Kwaku Mensah, sophomore Nicholas Leveson and graduate student Pat Conaty posted a season best time of 44.48 seconds to place 11th overall, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Gorecki, senior Maximin Rocheleau, Levenson and newcomer Liam Eble also turned in a season best time with a time of 3:34.89 to round out the top Falcon efforts for the men.

Sophomore Sadie Zbikowski paced the women, placing 16th overall in the pole vault with a vault of 3.12 meter to set a new personal best, while senior Jenae Harrison notched a 12th place effort in the 800 meter with an ECAC qualifying time of 2:19.21.

On the track, senior Arthina Robert (16th) posted a time of 13.09 seconds in the 100 meter dash, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Harrison, Zbikowski, senior Braila Roy and newcomer Jenna Phelps registered a season best time of 4:12.04 with a 14th place finish.

The 4x800m relay team of freshman Shawna Ryan, Holly Wentworth, Nicole Gaffney and Rosette Nkanka put forth a solid time of 10:41.26 to set a new season best time in the process, while the 4x100 meter relay team of Robert, sophomore Morgan Steele, freshman Amanda Remie and classmate Annie Woolley turned in a time of 52.37 seconds. Steele rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the ladies side, placing 16th overall in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.36 meters..

Members of the Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track & field teams will be in action again next weekend as they compete at the 2015 All-New England Championships hosted by MIT, starting on Friday at 4 p.m.
