Falcons Excel at Season-Opening BSU Bears Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Fitchburg State University outdoor track & field team competed in the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational on Saturday at Swenson Field. The non-scoring meet featured 23 men's squads and 22 women's team from the New England area.

In the field events, freshman Cameron Stalters was a MASCAC, D3 and ECAC qualifier in the javelin at 54.49 meters; freshman Brendon Courtney was a MASCAC qualifier at 11.59 meters in the shot put; sophomore Timothy Breen placed first in the pole vault and qualified for the MASCAC Championships; senior Akhiel Willis qualified for MASCACs with a 12.72 meter distance in the triple jump; and sophomore Ben Sattiewhite finished second in the high jump at 1.88 meters.


In the track events, Jake Hastings ran the 1500 in a MASCAC-qualifying time of 4:12.97, good for fourth place; junior Brandon Hannon was also a MASCAC qualifier with a 4:33.42 in the 1500.

The 4x100 team of senior Eric Custadio, junior Connor Flynn, freshman Daniel Nkansah, and Willis posted a 46.61 to qualify for MASCAC and D3.

The following were also MASCAC qualifiers: Junior Nicholas Levenson (11.64 in the 100) and Nkansah (11.64 in the 100); senior Timothy Allen (35:41.02 in the 10,000) and senior Michael Martin (37:41.53 in the 10,000); and junior Chauncey Beatty (51.97 in the 400).

Other outstanding track performers: In the 800, Beatty (2:07.99); in the 400 meter hurdles, Levenson (58.98) and freshman Austin Landress (63.42); in the 5000, junior Brian Amaral (15:49.11), freshman Joseph Darrigo (16:28.86), and freshman Anthony Darrigo (16:43.81).

The Falcons' outdoor track & field team returns to action on April 2nd, hosting the Jim Sheehan Memorial.
