Fitchburg State Hosts Annual Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite

Stalters and Sattiewhite qualify for Open New England's in the javelin and high jump respectively

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team hosted its annual Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational this afternoon at Elliot Field, placing first overall with a total of 157 points.

Junior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons with an Open New England qualifying mark of 64.06 meters after placing first overall in the javelin, while the 4x100 meter relay team of sophomore Zachary Joseph (Hyde Park, Mass.), freshman Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.), classmate Brandon Amello (Rowley, Mass.) and fellow freshman Matthew Goss placed first overall with a time of 44.49 seconds.

Senior Ben Sattiewhite (Salem, Mass.) took top honors in the high jump with an Open NE qualifying mark of 2.06 meters, while freshman Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) added a second place effort in the event with a jump of 1.85 meters.

In the 100 meter, Amello and Monteiro finished fourth and fifth respectively with a MASCAC qualifying times of 11.81 and 11.86 seconds, while in the 200 meter, Amello (23.80), Monteiro (23.85) and freshman Deion Ducoste (Boston, Mass.) (24.53) finished third, fourth and 11th to all qualify for MASCAC's.

On the track, freshman Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) placed second overall in the 10,000 meter with a time of 33:49.11, while freshman Joe Weston (Middleton, Mass.) notched a post-season qualifying time of 11:30.53 in the 3000 meter with a third place effort.

In the 1500 meter, junior Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.), senior Mark Tonelli (Ayer, Mass.) and freshman Timothy Sheehy (Wakefield, Mass.) finished ninth, 11th and 14th respectively with post-season qualifying times of 4:28.69, 4:30.61 and 4:35.93, while Goss placed seventh overall in the 400 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 55.69 seconds.

Senior Jake Hastings (Phillipston, Mass.), classmate Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.) and Sheehy posted MASCAC qualifying times of 1:57.59, 2:00.48 and 2:12.50, placing first, second and fifth in the 800 meter, while junior Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with post-season qualifying of 1:06.73.

In the field, freshman Christopher Dunne registered a MASCAC qualifying jump; of 5.39 meters in the long jump, while newcomer Keenan Doyle (Lancaster, Mass.) placed second overall in the pole vault with a height of 3.35 meters.

Junior Brendan Courtney (North Attleboro, Mass.) and freshman Thomas Aho (Winchendon, Mass.) placed fifth and 21st in the shotput with post-season qualifying tosses of 11.83m and 8.62m, while in the hammer throw, Courtney (34.07m) and Aho (17.82m) placed fifth and 17th respectively to close out the top Falcon efforts on the day.

The Fitchburg State men's track and field team will be back in action next weekend as it competes at Mount Holyoke on Saturday, April 14th for a meet starting at 10:00 AM.
