Fitchburg State Shines At Spring Fling

Stalters earns top honors in javelin with Open NE qualifying toss of 63.60 meters

South Hadley, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track and field team competed at both the 2018 Spring Fling hosted by Mount Holyoke College as well as at the 2018 Silfen Outdoor Track & Field Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College on Friday and Saturday.

At Mount Holyoke, senior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) continued his stellar 2018 campaign, taking top honors in the javelin with an Open New England qualifying toss of 63.60 meters, while senior Ben Sattiewhite (Salem, Mass.) placed first overall in the high jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 1.95 meters. In addition, Sattiewhite also added a sixth place, MASCAC qualifying jump of 1.95 meters in the long jump.

Freshman Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) qualified for MASCAC's in the 100 meter (11.51) and the 200 meter (23.06), while junior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.) notched a post-season qualifying time of 51.68 seconds in the 400 meter with a second place finish.

In the 800 meter, senior Mark Tonelli (Ayer, Mass.) notched a post-season qualifying time of 2:09.50 with a fifth place finish, with in the 1500, freshman Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.), classmate Timothy Sheehy (Wakefield, Mass.) and newcomer Andrew Hill (Templeton, Mass.) posted MASCAC qualifying times of 4:20.81, 4:28.82 and 4:57.25 respectively.

Movsessian, freshman Anthony Ortwein (Fitchburg, Mass.) and sophomore Brandon DiGregorio (Somerville, Mass.) placed third, sixth and eighth in the 5000 with post-season qualifying times of 16:36.36, 17:09.80 and 18:11.90, while Armstead posted a second place jump of 1.85 meters in the high jump..

In the field, senior Joseph Bernardini (Lowell, Mass.) and freshman Eric Dosgroseilliers (Somerville, Mass.) placed third and sixth in the shot put with MASCAC qualifying tosses of 11.96m and 9.69m, while Bernardini added a seventh place, post-season qualifying throw of 35.07 meters in the discus.

In the hammer throw, Bernardini (4th) and freshman Thomas Aho (Winchendon, Mass.) (6th) collected MASCAC qualifying marks of 30.24m and 21.71m, while Bernardini (41.15m) and senior Justin Kearns (Shrewsbury, Mass.) (36.88) rounded out the top Falcon efforts at Mount Holyoke, placing sixth and eighth in the javelin.

At Connecticut College, senior Jake Hastings (Phillipston, Mass.) placed 13th overall in the 1500 with a MASCAC qualifying time of 4:02.62, while junior Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished seventh in the 10,000 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 33:15.77. Fellow junior Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the performances for the Green and Gold at the Silfen Invite, turning in a MASCAC qualifying time of 10::33.23 in the 3000 meter steeple chase after placing 15th overall in the event.

The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track and field team returns to action next weekend as the Falcons hosts their annual Eric Loeschner Memorial Invite on Saturday, April 21st at Elliot Field, starting at 9:30 AM.
