Fitchburg State Hosts Annual Eric Loeschner Memorial Invite

Stalters notches Open NE qualifying mark of 67.07m with first place finish in the javelin

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track and field team returned to action this afternoon, hosting its annual Eric Loeschner Memorial Invitational at Elliot Field.

Junior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) continued his stellar 2018 campaign after placing first overall in the javelin with an Open New England qualifying mark of 67.07 meters, while also taking top honors in the 110 meter hurdles with a DIII NE qualifying time of 16.17 seconds.

In the high jump, senior Ben Sattiewhite (Salem, Mass.) placed first overall in the event with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.97 meters, while freshman Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) finished second with jump of 1.92m to also qualify for DIII NE's.

In the 100 meter dash, freshmen Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.), Zachary Joseph (Hyde Park, Mass.) and Deion Ducoste (Boston, Mass.) placed third, fourth and fifth with MASCAC qualifying times of 11.71, 11.76 and 11.81 seconds, while the trio of Ducoste, Monteiro and Joseph also qualified for MASCAC's in the 200 meter with times of 23.90, 24.02 and 24.37 seconds after finishing first, third and fourth respectively.

Junior Andrew Tricker (Wareham, Mass.) turned in a solid post-season qualifying time of 58.03 seconds in the 400 meter with a ninth place effort, while senior Jake Hastings (Phillipston, Mass.), classmate Mark Tonelli (Ayer, Mass.) and newcomer Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) finished first, fourth and sixth in the 800 meter with MASCAC qualifying times of 1:58.34, 2:06.05 and 2:09.25.

In the 1500, Movsessain (2nd) and junior Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) (3rd) posted post-season qualifying times of 4:23.74 and 4:26.54, while sophomore Brandon DiGregorio (Somerville, Mass.) added a MASCAC qualifying time of 37:51.31 with a third place finish in the 10,000 meter.

In the field, freshman Keenan Doyle (Lancaster, Mass.) and Stalters placed first and second in the pole vault with MASCAC qualifying vaults of 3.50m and 3.35m, while in the long jump, newcomer Grant Mckinlay (Sutton, Mass.) and classmate Christopher Dunne finished second and fourth respectively with post-season qualifying marks of 5.61m and 5.45m.

Senior Joseph Bernardini (Lowell, Mass.) notched a trio of MASCAC qualifying marks in the shotput (12.23m), discus (35.00m) and the hammer throw (30.94m) after placing third in all three events, while junior Brendan Courtney (North Attleboro, Mass.) and freshman Thomas Aho (Winchendon, Mass.) added post-season qualifying tosses of 34.47m and 23.78m in the hammer throw after placing second and fourth. Senior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.) and junior Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the top efforts for the Falcons, finishing first and fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with MASCAC qualifying times of 59.35 and 1:05.61.

The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track and field team returns to action next Saturday as it competes in the 2018 MASCAC/Alliance Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Bridgewater State University, starting at 10:00 AM.
