Fitchburg State Places Fourth At MASCAC Championships

Stalters Sets New MASCAC/NE Alliance Meet Record in the javelin with Open NE qualifying toss of 66.44 meters

Bridgewater, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track and field team placed fourth overall at the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a total of 87 points at Swenson Field on the campus of Bridgewater State University this afternoon.

Junior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) continued his stellar 2018 season after being crowned the MASCAC/New England Alliance Champion in the javelin with an Open New England qualifying toss of 66.46m to set a new NE Alliance Championship meet record, while adding a DIII NE qualifying time of 16.27 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles with a second place finish in the event.

In the high jump, senior Ben Sattiewhite (Salem, Mass.) claimed the MASCAC championship with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.98m, while freshman Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) finished second in the event with a DIII NE qualifying jump of 1.88m.

Senior Jake Hastings (Phillipston, Mass.) captured the MASCAC tilt in the 1500 meter with a DIII NE qualifying time of 3:57.61, while also placing second overall in the 800 meter with time of 1:57.80.

Freshman Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) placed third in the 10,000 meter with a time of 33:27.73, while junior Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted a ninth place time of 16:41.60 in the 5,000 meter.

In the 400 meter hurdles, junior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.) finished sixth overall with a time of 58.57 seconds, while newcomer Timothy Sheehy (Wakefield, Mass.) turned in a tenth place time of 4:39.24 in the 1500.

The 4x100 meter relay team of freshman Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.), senior Tapiwa Mungate (Dracut, Mass.), Landress and sophomore Zachary Joseph (Hyde Park, Mass.) finished third with a time of 44.21 seconds, while Monteiro added a seventh time of 23.68 seconds in the 200 meter.

In the 3000m steeple chase, junior Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Joe Weston (Middleton, Mass.) ;placed third and eighth with times of 10:13.59 and 11:06.48, while in the 100 meter, Joseph and Monteiro turned in times of 11.36 seconds and 11.49 seconds after finishing third and sixth respectively.

In the field, senior Joseph Bernardini (Lowell, Mass.) placed sixth in the discus (36.99m), 13th in the shotput (10.55m) and 11th in the javelin (37.35m), while junior Brendan Courtney (North Attleboro, Mass.) notched an eighth place effort in the hammer throw with a toss of 36.22 meters. McWhinnie-Armstead closed out the top efforts for the Falcons, finishing fifth in the triple jump with jump of 12.40 meters.

The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track and field team return to action next weekend as select members complete at the 2018 DIII New England Championships, hosted by MIT, starting on Friday, May 4th at 2:00 PM.
