Fitchburg State Excels At DIII New England Championships

Stalters claims first place in the javelin with Open NE qualifying toss of 68.48m 

Cambridge, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track and field team finished 19th at at the DIII New England Championships this weekend with a total of 14.5 points, hosted by MIT at the Henry G. Steinbrenner Stadium.

Junior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) was outstanding for the Green and Gold, taking top honors in the javelin with an Open New England qualifying and new meet record toss of 68.48 meters, earning All-New England honors , while senior Jake Hastings (Philipston, Mass.) finished sixth overall in the 1500 meter with time of 3:57.17 to also capture All-New England honors.

Senior Ben Sattiewhite (Salem, Mass.) posted a seventh place jump of 1.96 meters in the high jump, while freshman Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) added an 11th place effort of 1.91 meters in the event.

The 4x100 meter relay team of freshman Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.), senior Tapiwa Mungate (Dracut, Mass.), junior Zachary Joseph (Hyde Park, Mass.) and junior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.) finished 18th overall with a time of 44.64 seconds, while the 4x800 meter relay team of Hastings, Landress,  junior Ryan Stopka (Rochester, Mass.) and newcomer Anthony Ortwein (Fitchburg, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon efforts with a 15th place time of 8:13.86

The Fitchburg State men's outdoor track and field team returns to action next weekend as select members compete at the 2018 Open New England Championships, hosted by Dartmouth College, starting on Friday, May 11th at 2:00 PM.
