Medford, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team competed at both the 2019 Tufts Snowflake Classic and the 2019 Adidas Trojan Challenge, hosted by the University of Mount Olive

How It Happened

At the 2019 Adidas Trojan Challenge, senior Cameron Stalters (Norton, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the javelin with an Open New England qualifying mark of 62.22 meters, while sophomore Christian McWhinnie-Armstead (Lowell, Mass.) finished second in the high jump with a DIII NE qualifying jump of 1.96 meters. Senior Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon efforts at Mount Olive, turning in a DIII New England qualifying time of 10:08.45 with an eighth place finish in the 3000 meter steeple chase.

At the 2019 Tufts Snowflake Classic, freshman Brandon McNeil (Dartmouth, Mass.) placed fifth in the triple jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 13.17 meters, while sophomore Asante Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) added a sixth place effort in the 100 meter with a DIII New England qualifying time of 11.26 seconds.

Junior Zachary Buckland (Billerica, Mass.) notched MASCAC qualifying marks in the long jump (6.05m), the high jump (1.75m), the javelin (47.80m), the 100 meter hurdles (17.19) and the 400 meter hurdles (1:00.53), placing 11th, ninth, 12th, 11th and seventh respectively, while sophomore Joe Weston (Middleton, Mass.) finished ninth in the 3000 meter steeple chase to qualify for MASCAC's.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Monteiro, freshman Cody Soderlund IMiddleborough, Mass.), junior Zachary Joseph (Hyde Park, Mass.) and senior Austin Landress (Winchendon, Mass.) placed sixth with a time of 45.04 seconds, while Landress added a post-season qualifying time of 54.09 seconds in the 400 meter.

Joseph placed 13th overall in the 100 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 11.40 seconds, while freshman Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) notched a post-season qualifying time of 2:03.49 in the 800 meter.

In the 200 meter, Monteiro (23.85) and Joseph (24.24) qualified for MASCAC's, while sophomore Timothy Sheehy (Wakefield, R.I.) finished 20th in the 5000 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 16:59.43.

In the field, junior Wilkerson Pierre (Cambridge, Mass.) posted a MASCAC qualifying mark of 12.89m with a seventh place finish, while senior Justin Stewart (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted post-season qualifying marks of 8.70 meter in the shot put and 20.31 meters in the hammer throw to round out the top efforts for the Green and Gold on the afternoon.
