Fitchburg State Cross Country Competes In Double-Header

Men compete at All-New England’s; Women run at James Earley Invitational

FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 8, 2011) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s’ cross country teams were both in action this weekend competing in a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The men battled the All-New England Championships in Franklin Park, while the women ran at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University.

At the All-New England’s, the men’s team finished 41st overall among Division I, II and III schools, earning 1182 points on the afternoon. Again, senior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) was the top Falcon finisher of the afternoon, totaling a time of 27:14 for 158th place. Junior Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) finished behind Kibler with a time of 28:59, while rookies Brandon Davis (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) and Damion Perry (Westport, Mass./Diman Regional) turned in times of 29:14 and 29:17. Junior Michael Grasela (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) and Jim Quinlan (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) completed the Fitchburg State top six with time of 30:16 and 31:44 on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State women traveled to Westfield, Mass. this afternoon as they competed in the16th annual James Earley Invitational. The Falcons finished 23rd overall with 599 points. Junior Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) finished in the top spot for the Falcons, placing 91st overall with a time of 21:18.16, while freshman Bralia Roy (Hyannis, Mass./Barnstable) turned in a pace of 22:05.

Senior Katie Page (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) was also solid on the afternoon for the Falcons, completing the 5K layout in a time of 22:05, while junior Chenice Branquinho (E. Freetown, Mass./Old Rochester) added a 23:07 effort. Senior Lisa Dias (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth), junior Kelsey Chand (Middleboro, Mass./Bristol Plymouth) and senior Katy Scott (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) wrapped up the lady runners with times of 23:27, 23:50, and 24:42 respectively.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action next Friday as they participate in the Saints Cross Country Invitational starting at 4 p.m.
