Fitchburg State Places Second At Worcester City Meet

Kibler earns top spot in men’s race; Lane finishes 25th to pace Lady Falcons

PAXTON, Mass. (September 24, 2011) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams participated in the annual Worcester City Meet this afternoon hosted at Moore State Park in Paxton, Mass.

The Fitchburg State men’s team collected a second place finish with 45 points on the afternoon, while the women placed fifth overall with a 134 point effort.

Senior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) turned in a first place performance this afternoon for the Falcons, finishing the 8K layout with a time of 28:42. Freshman Brandon Davis (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) followed Kibler into the chute with a top ten finish, placing ninth with a time of 29:48, while junior Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) capped the Falcons top three in 11th place with a time of 29:57.

Newcomers Eric Ouellette (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) and Damion Perry (Westport, Mass./Diman Regional) earned 15th and 16th finishes on the afternoon with times of 30:19 and 30:20 respectively, while junior Mike Grasela (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) rounded out the top six Falcons in 17th place with a time of 30:26.

On the ladies side, junior Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) continued her strong running this afternoon, earning the top spot for Fitchburg State (25th overall) with a time of 23:11. Freshman Braila Roy (Hyannis, Mass./Barnstable) and senior Katie Page (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) trailed Lane in 28th (23:32) and 29th (24:07) place respectively, while junior Chenice Branquinho (East Freetown, Mass./Old Colony) placed 31st with a time of 24:19. Senior Katy Scott (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) completed the Falcons top five with a time of 25:42, good for 40th overall.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Keene State College at 11 a.m.
