Fitchburg State Competes At MASCAC Championships

Ouellete and Mallozi pace Falcons for second straight week

WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 27, 2012) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country competed in the 2012 New England Alliance/MASCAC Championships hosted by Westfield State University this afternoon.

The men finished third overall in MASCAC and seventh overall in the Alliance with 71 points, while the women took fourth in the MASCAC and 13th overall in the Alliance.

On the men’s side, every runner their time on the course from the previous Jim Earley meet at Westfield State. Sophomore Eric Ouellette (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) earned MASCAC All-Conference honors , placing fourth overall in the MASCAC with at time of 26:41, while senior Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) finished with a 15th place effort and time of 27:45.

Sophomore Brandon Davis (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) placed third among the Falcons and 19th in the conference with a pace of 28:13, while classmate Jim Quinlan (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) notched a time of 28:20. Freshman Tim Allen (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) capped the Falcons top five with a time of 28:32.

The women also posted many season best times this afternoon as top-runner Erica Mallozzi (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) led the way with an all-time PR of 20:25, good for 16th overall in the MASCAC. Senior Chenice Branquinho (E. Freetown, Mass./Old Colony), sophomore Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington), graduate Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) all followed into the chute, while freshman Genevieve LaPoint (Fitchburg, Mass./Liverpool) notched a huge PR effort, knocking off two minutes from her previous best.

Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country team will be in action again next weekend as they compete at the ECAC Championships hosted by Williams College.
