Fitchburg State Soars At Jim Earley Invitational

Women place 27th with 730 points; Men finish 20th with 585 points

WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 6, 2012) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams visited Westfield State University this afternoon as they competed at the annual Jim Earley Invitational.

The Fitchburg State women’s team finished 27th out of 42 competing teams with a 730 points overall, while the men placed 20th out of 40 teams with 585 points on the afternoon.

For the women, senior Chenice Branquinho (E. Freetown, Mass./Old Colony) posted a team-best finish, placing 152nd and a time of 25:54, while freshman Erica Mallozzi (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) and sophomore Bralia Roy (Hyannis, Mass./Agawam) finished second and third on the team respectively with times of 26:03 and 26:06. Graduate Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) added a time of 26:43, while sophomore Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washignton) wrapped up the Falcons top five with a 26:56 effort.

On the men’s side, senior Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) led all Falcon runners, placing 87th overall with a time of 28:18, while sophomore Eric Ouellette (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) also cracked the top 100 with a 97th place finish and time of 28:30. Sophomore Brandon Davis (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) finished with an effort of 28:56, while junior Larry Teague (Tyngsobor, Mass./Lowell Tech) and Dan Drescher (Saugus, Mass./Northeast) added times of 30:35 and 30:44 respectively.

Fitchburg State will be in action again on October 20th as it visits Williams College at 11 a.m.
