Fitchburg State Runs Past Plansky Invitational

Ouellete and Mallozi pace Falcons efforts at Williams College meet

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (October 20, 2012) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams visited Williams College this afternoon as they competed at the 5th annual Plansky Invitational.

On the men’s side, sophomore Eric Ouellette (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) also was the top collegiate runner of the afternoon, finishing second overall with a time of 20:43 over the 6K race. Classmate Jim Quinlan (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) was the second Falcon through the chute with his best race of the year at 21:56, while freshman Tim Allen (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) added a tenth place time of 22:04. Senior Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) was also strong with a time of 22:08, while Dan Drescher (Saugus, Mass./Northeast), Larry Teague (Tyngsboro, Mass./Lowell Tech) and Michael Osborn (Vineyard Haven, Mass./Martha’s Vineyard) completed the top seven with time of 22:50, 23:17 and 23:39 respectively.  

For the women, freshman Erica Mallozzi (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) paved the way for the Falcons on a very mushy course, posting an eight place finish and time of 22:35 over a 5K layout. Graduate Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) finished right behind Mallozzi in ninth with a time of 22:44, while sophomore Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washignton) placed 12th with a 23:05 effort. Junior Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) also cracked the Falcon top 5 with a time of 23:05, while sophomore Bralia Roy (Hyannis, Mass./Agawam), freshman Elizabeth Ward (Ashby, Mass./North Middlesex) and junior Alyson Moreau (Barrington, Mass./Barrington) posted times of 23:32, 23:50 and 24:28.

Fitchburg State will be in action again next weekend as it competes in the MASCAC/Alliance Championships with a 11 a.m. start on Saturday.
