Fitchburg State Hosts Jim Sheehan Memorial

Ouellette places second overall as Fitchburg State captures first place with a total of 24 points

FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 6, 2013) – The Fitchburg State cross country team hosted its annual Jim Sheehan Memorial meet Friday afternoon at the Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster, Mass. The Falcon’s men’s squad played host to Worcester State and fellow alumni, earning first place with a total score of 24 points.

Five Falcons placed within the top ten, led by junior Eric Ouellette (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont), who placed second overall with a time of 27:35, while freshman Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H./Pelham) finished fourth overall with a time of 29:33. Classmate Vincent Tevnan (Boscawen, N.H./Merrimack Valley) put forth a solid effort with a time of 29:45, while sophomore Tim Allen (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) (7th) and newcomer Matthew Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) (9th) rounded out Fitchburg State’s top performances with times of 30:04 and 30:07 respectively.

The Fitchburg State alumni also faired well, placing second overall with 45 points. Former Falcon standout Chris Kibler took home first place with a time of 27:24.7, while graduates Mike Grasela and Matt Germaine earned top ten finishes as well, turning in times of 29:39 and 30:30 respectively. Ryan Miller also put forth a solid performance with a time of 34:17.7 to wrap up the alumni’s top efforts.

Fitchburg State will be back in action Saturday as it travels to Franklin Pierce University for a meet starting at 11 1.m.
