Fitchburg State Opens At Keene State Invitational

Men place fifth with 161 points; Women finish fifth with 126 points

KEENE, N.H. (August 31, 2013) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country team opened up the 2013 season this afternoon, visiting Keene State College for its annual Alumni Invitational.

The men’s team placed fifth overall with 161 points, while the women earned fifth as well with 126 points on the afternoon. Freshman Vincent Tevnan (Boscawen, N.H./Merrimack Valley) earned the top finish for the men, placing 26th overall with a time of 17:54, while classmates Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H./Pelham) and Matthew Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) placed 27th and 31th overall, turning in times of  turned in times of 17:59 and 18:10 respectively. Rounding out the top five for the Falcons were sophomore Tim Allen (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) with a time of 18:41 and senior Larry Teague (Tyngsboro, Mass./Greater Lowell) with a solid effort of 18:42 over the 5K layout.

On the women’s side, sophomore Erica Mallozzi (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) led the way, placing 28th overall with time of 13:32. Junior Braila Roy (Hyannis, Mass./Barstable) notched a time of 13:40 to place 36th, while senior Alyson Moreau (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) and junior Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) earned times of 13:45 and 14:01. Senior Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) placed 47th with a time of 14:11, while sophomore Libby Ward (Ashby, Mass./North Middlesex) and freshman Kelly McCarthy (Assonet, Mass./Apponequet Regional) rounded out the top seven for the ladies with times of 14:25 and 14:33 respectively.

Fitchburg State will be back in action Friday as it hosts the annual Jim Sheehan Memorial at the Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster at 4 p.m.
