Fitchburg State Visits Keene State Invitational

Men finish fourth overall; women place eighth

 

KEENE, N.H. (October 5, 2013) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Keene State Cross Country Invitational this afternoon as the Falcons placed fourth and eighth respectively.

The Fitchburg State men ran a very strong race this weekend, finishing fourth overall with a total of 122 points as the Fitchburg State men’s top seven runners continued to run well and are improving on a weekly basis. Junior Eric Ouellette (Ashburnham, Mass.) led the men with a sixth place finish and a time of 27:09, while senior Larry Teague (Tyngsboro, Mass.) finished 27th overall, posting a 29:12 effort over the 8K layout.

Freshman Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H.) (28th) put forth a solid effort with a time of 29:12, while classmate Matt Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass.) followed in 29th place with a time of 19:18. Sophomore Tim Allen (Methuen, Mass.) finished with a time 29:28 to place 36th overall, while newcomer Vincent Tevnan (Boscawen, N.H.) and junior Jim Quinlan (North Andover, Mass.) cracked the top seven Falcon finishers with times of 30:17 and 30:32 respectively.

For the ladies, the Fitchburg State women ran a solid race, placing eighth overall with a total of 268 points, despite not having four of its top runners. Sophomore Erica Mallozzi (Gardner, Mass.) continued her strong running, placing 66th overall with a time of 21:55 over the 5K layout, while junior Braila Roy (Hyannis, Mass.) (73rd) turned in a solid time of 22:14. Sophomore Libby Ward (Ashby, Mass.) ran well, placing 79th overall with a time of 22:19, while junior Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D.) finish the course in 22:31 for an 83rd place showing.

Sophomore Jessica Mangan (Everett, Mass.) placed 117th overall with a time of 24:34, while junior Ebony Schuerman (Fitchburg, Mass.) and senior Stephanie Irvin (Malden, Mass.) closed out the Falcons top efforts with times of 26:10 and 28:03 respectively.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams will be back in action next Saturday as it visits Westfield State University for a meet starting at 11 a.m.
