Fitchburg State Competes At MASCAC Championships

Ouellete and Roy pace Falcons in 2013 MASCAC/Alliance Meet

GORHAM, Maine (November 2, 2013) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country competed in the 2013 New England Alliance/MASCAC Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine this afternoon.

The men finished second overall in MASCAC (68 points) and fifth overall in the Alliance with 177 points, while the women took fourth in the MASCAC (103 points) and ninth overall in the Alliance with a total of 259 points.

On the men’s side, sophomore Eric Ouellette (Ashburnham, Mass./) earned MASCAC and Alliance All-Conference honors , placing third overall in the MASCAC with at time of 26:54, while placing 12th overall in the Alliance meet, freshman Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H.) put forth a strong 18th place MASCAC effort with a time of 28:23.

Newcomer Vincent Tevnan (Boscawen, N.H.) placed third among the Falcons and 20th in the conference with a pace of 28:29, while senior Larry Teague (Tyngsboro, Mass.) followed in 22nd place at a pace of 28:40. Freshman Matt Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass.) was also solid, finishing the 8K Alliance course in a time of 29:30, while classmate Colen Stack (Greenfield, Mass.) notched a time of 29:14.

Sophomores Sam Carroll (Brockton, Mass.) and Tim Allen (Methuen, Mass.) capped the top Falcon efforts for the men with times of 29:30 and 29:33 respectively.

The women also ran well on the afternoon as top-runner Braila Roy (Hyannis, Mass.) led the way for the ladies, placing 20th overall in the MASCAC with a time of 21:35, while sophomore Erica Mallozzi (Gardner, Mass.) placed 21st in the conference with a solid time of 21:38.

Sophomore Elizabeth Ward (Ashby, Mass.) registered a time of 21:53 over the 5K layout to place 26th, while junior Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D) posted a time of 22:04. Senior Alyson Moreau (Barrington, R.I.) put forth a strong time of 22:17, while senior Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass.) and newcomer Kelly McCarthy (Assonet, Mass.) capped the top performances for the women’s squad with times of 22:29 and 22:34 respectively.

Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country team will be in action again next weekend as they compete at the ECAC Championships hosted by Roger Williams University.
