Fitchburg State Soars At NCAA DIII New England Championships

Ouellette and Mallozzi pace Falcons at the 2013 NCAA New England Regionals

GORHAM, Maine (November 16, 2013) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country team was in action this afternoon as the Falcons competed in the 2013 NCAA DIII New England Region Cross Country Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine.

The Fitchburg State men’s team placed 26th overall out of 50 competing schools with 822 points, while the women finished in 42nd place out of 59 schools in the field with a total of 1271 points.

For the men, junior Eric Ouellette (Ashburnham, Mass.) led the pack, placing 89th out of 371 runners, posting an outstanding time of 26:29 to finish as the top Falcon. Freshman Vincent Tevnan (Boscawen N.H.) followed Ouellette into the shoot with a time of 27:33 (145th), while classmate Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H.) placed 177th with a time of 28:11.

Newcomer Matt Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass.) finished fourth in the Falcons line up with a solid time of 28:23, while sophomore Tim Allen (Methuen, Mass.), freshman Colen Stack (Greenfield, Mass.) and senior Larry Teague (Tyngsboro, Mass.) c the Falcons top seven with times of 29:11, 19:16 and 19:24 respectively.

On the ladies side, sophomore Erica Mallozzi (Gardner, Mass.) paced the Falcons, placing 216th overall with a time of 25:30, while junior Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls. S.D.) was also solid (235th), registering a time of 25:31 over the 6K Southern Maine course.

Sophomore Elizabeth Ward (Ashby, Mass.) followed into the shoot, posting a time of 26:23, while junior Braila Roy (Hyannis, Mass.) was strong as well, registering a time of 26:50. Senior Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass.) notched a time of 27:02, while freshman Kelly McCarthy (Assonet, Mass.) and sophomore Jessica Mangan (Everett, Mass.) rounded out the top Fitchburg State efforts for the women’s squad with times of 27:07 and 28:05 respectively.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams will be in action next weekend as they compete in the 2013 Division III NCAA Championships hosted by Hanover College in Indiana, starting at 12 p.m.
