Fitchburg State Soars At Jim Earley Invitational

Men finish 14th with 411 points; Women place 20th with 568 points

WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 12, 2013) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams visited Westfield State University this afternoon as they competed at the 18th annual Jim Earley Invitational.

The Fitchburg State women’s team finished 20th out of 44 competing teams with a 568 points overall, while the men placed 14th out of 40 teams with 411 points on the afternoon.

On the men’s side, junior Eric Ouellette (Ashburnham, Mass.) led all Falcon runners, placing 10th overall with an outstanding time of 26:40, while freshman Vincent Tevnan (Boscawen, N.H.) also cracked the top 100 with a 63rd place finish and time of 27:55. Senior Larry Teague (Tyngsboro, Mass.) (103rd) finished with an effort of 28:48, while newcomer Colen Stack (Greenfield, Mass.) posted a solid time of 29:29.

Freshman Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H.) follow with time of 29:37, while classmate Matt Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass.) finished the 8K layout in a time of 29:54. Sophomore Sam Carroll (Brockton, Mass.) registered a time of 30:16, while freshman Rawson Randlett (Plymouth, Mass.) also ran well, posting a personal best time of 30:49. Sophomore Zach Levenson (Canton, Mass.) closed out the Falcons top performances with time of 31:24 for the men's squad.

The women had a solid day as the top five runners all finished within 24 seconds of each other as sophomore Erica Mallozzi (Gardner, Mass.) posted a team-best finish, placing 115th overall with a time of 21:38 over the 5K course, while junior Braila Roy (Hyannis, Mass.) and classmate Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D) finished second and third on the team respectively with times of 21:52 and 21:55. Sophomore Libby Ward (Ashby, Mass.) also ran well with a time of 22:02, while newcomer Kelly McCarthy (Assonet, Mass.) finished with a time of 22:13.

Senior Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass.) put forth a solid effort, registering a time of 22:24, while classmate Alyson Moreau (Barrington, R.I.) rounded out the Falcons top seven efforts with a time of 22:36.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams will be in action again on Friday as they compete at the 2013 Saints Invitational hosted by Emmanuel College at Franklin Park in Boston at 4 p.m.
