Fitchburg State Places Fourth At Worcester City Meet

Tevnan and Mallozzi lead Falcons at annual Worcester meet

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 28, 2013) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the 41th annual Worcester City Meet hosted by Worcester State University at Moore State Park this afternoon.

The Fitchburg State men’s team finished fourth overall with a total of 122 points, while the women placed fourth with 85 points total.

For the men, freshman Vincent Tevnan (Boscawen, N.H.) continued his strong running for the Falcons, posting a team-best 23rd place finish with a time of 29:45 over the five mile Worcester City course, while classmate Brandon Hannon (Pelham, N.H.) placed 24th overall with a time of 29:49.

Sophomore Tim Allen (Methuen, Mass.) posted a time of 30:32 with a 32nd place effort, while newcomer Matt Cuomo (Carlisle, Mass.) turned in a 33rd place effort with a time of 30:06. Sophomore Sam Carroll (Brockton, Mass.) notched a 41st place showing a time of 31:04, while freshmen Colen Stack (Greenfield, Mass.) and Rawson Randlett (Plymouth, Mass.) and junior Michael Osborn (Vineyard Have, Mass.) rounded out the top eight Falcon finishers with times of 32:05, 32:20 and 32:21 respectively as the men’s team ran the race as a controlled pack race, working together for the first three miles before going all out to the finish.

On the women’s side, sophomore Erica Mallozzi (Gardner, Mass.) led the way, placing 13th overall out 63 runners with a time of 22:13 while junior Braila Roy (Hyannis, Mass.) notched a solid time of 22:19 with a 15th place finish. Senior Alyson Moreau (Barrington, R.I.) (18th) chipped in with a time of 22:26, while Libby Ward (Ashby, Mass.) (19th) put forth a solid effort, registering a time of 22:34.

Junior Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D.) cracked the top 20 with time of 22:36, while senior Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass.) ran the 5K course with a time of 22:48. Sophomore Jessica Mangan (Everett, Mass.) posted a time of 24:10, while junior Ebony Schuerman (Fitchburg, Mass.) newcomer Grace Morrissey (Millis, Mass.) and senior Stephanie Irvin (Malden, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon efforts for the women with times of 24:26, 25:20 and 28:28 respectively.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams will be back in action next Saturday as it visits Keene State College at 10:45 a.m.
