Falcons Cross Country Runs in Worcester City Championship

Paxton, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University cross country teams participated in the Worcester City Cross Country Championship on Saturday afternoon hosted by Worcester State University.

The women's side placed fourth with a total of 107 points, while the men's squad took fifth with 113 points.

The Assumption women had six in the top 10 as the Greyhounds earned their seventh Women's Worcester City Cross Country Championship, while the men's Assumption team took top honors with 36 points and three runners in the top five.

Nicole Gaffney led the FSU women's team with a 10th place finish (21:42), while Jenae Harrison was the second Falcon across the line at 22:22 in 12th. Jessica Mangan took 24th at 23:40, and in 27th was Fitchburg's Bridget Diggins (23:52). Rounding out the Green and Gold in 34th-36th place was Shawna Ryan (24:28), Braila Roy (24:35), and Sadie Zbikowski (24:50).

First-year runner and reigning MASCAC Rookie of the Week Brian Amaral continued his strong performance from a week ago, pacing the Falcons with a fourth place finish at 28:51. Coming in 21st and 22nd was Jake Hastings and Matthew Cuomo at 30:26 and 30:28 respectively. Timothy Allen crossed the line at 31:57 (29th), and coming in one after the other was Liam Eble (33:50) and Mark Tonelli (34:04).

The men's team used today's race as a tempo/fartlek workout.

Fitchburg cross country will be back in action next Saturday as they travel to Keene State at 10:00 am.
