Fitchburg State Races at MASCAC/Alliance Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN. Mass. – The Fitchburg State University cross country teams raced in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon at Mount Greylock. The alliance race is partnered with the Little East Conference.

The men's side placed sixth overall (3rd in MASCAC), while the women took eighth (5th in MASCAC).

Freshman Jake Hastings led the Falcons at 27:03 for sixth overall, while coming in second in the MASCAC and was awarded MASCAC Rookie of the Year. Brian Amaral was right behind him in 14that 27:26 (7th in MASCAC).  Timothy Allen crossed the line in 33rd at 28:42, while Matthew Cuomoplaced 37th (28:58).  Joseph Little wrapped up the Green & Gold top five in 60th place overall at 29:31.

The next five runners in for the men's side were: Michael Martin (30:03), Daniel Fournier (30:07),Sean Beverly (30:09), Liam Eble (30:21), and Mark Tonelli (31:16).

Both Hastings and Amaral were named to the MASCAC  & Alliance All-Star teams following the race. 

Nicole Gaffney paced the women's team with a 24th overall; ninth place in the MASCAC at 21:02, while being named to the conference All-Star squad. Jenae Harrison crossed the line  at 21:53 (55thoverall), while Sadie Zbikowski was in at 22:26 (69th). Elizabeth Ward placed 74th overall at 22:38, and Kelly McCarthy rounded out the Falcon top five in 84th at 23:01.

Braila Roy ran a 23:26, Jessica Mangan (23:46), Bridget Diggins (23:47), Jenna Phelps (24:00), and Shawna Ryan (24:04) were the next five Fitchburg State runners to cross the finish line.
