Falcons Race at NE NCAA DIII Regionals at Williams

Williamstown, Mass. – On Saturday, Fitchburg State competed in the 2014 NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships hosted by Williams College. The course at Mt. Greylock Regional High School is known to be challenging, with many hills to test the runners' strength. The competitors battled it out under sunny skies and a high temperature of 35 degrees. The many spectators lining the course created a festive atmosphere of immense energy.

The men's team placed 25th overall out of the 54 team field. Brian Amaral led the Falcons with a 75th place finish, crossing the line at 27:03. In second for the Green & Gold was Jake Hastings in 116th (27:37), while Matthew Cuomo took 169th at the 28:27 mark. Timothy Allen finished at 28:42 (184th), while Joseph Little placed 213th (29:17). Rounding out the Falcons was Michael Martin and Sean Beverly, who both crossed the line at 30.29.

The Fitchburg State women's side placed 40th (1,158) in the 57 team field. Leading the way wasJenae Harrison in 195th place, running a 25:37. In at the 25:39 mark was Nicole Gaffney in 196th, while Kelly McCarthy finished in 251st (26:37). Sadie Zbikowski was the next Falcon across the line at 26.42 (255th), while Elizabeth Ward came in at 26.52 in 261st. Rounding out the Green & Gold was Braila Roy and Jessica Mangan at 27:03 and 28:11 respectively.

The race marks the end of the season for both cross country teams, who had strong seasons and excitement going into next season.
