Darrigo Collects MASCAC Rookie Of The Week Honors

Tewksbury, Mass. native earns second straight weekly accolade of the season

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Freshman Joseph Darrigo was recently named Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's cross country rookie of the week for the second consecutive week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Darrigo earns his second straight weekly honor on the season after leading the Fitchburg State men's cross country team to a first place finish with a total of 30 points, placing fourth overall with a time of 16:50 over the 5K course at the 2015 Mayflower Invitational hosted by New England College on Sunday.

Last week, the first-year Falcon posted a time of 28:06 with a fourth place finish to lead the Fitchburg State men's cross country team to a first place finish with a perfect score of 15 points as Fitchburg State hosted its annual Jim Sheehan Memorial Alumni Invitational at the Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster last Saturday.

The Fitchburg State men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday as they compete in the 2015 UMass Dartmouth Invitational with the men running at 10:30 am, while the women's race will start at 12 pm.
