Fitchburg State Races At ECAC DIII NE Championships

Martin and Diggins lead the way for Falcons at 2015 ECAC DIII NE Championship Meet

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's and women's cross country competed in the 2015 ECAC DIII New England Championship Meet, hosted by Mount Greylock High School this afternoon.

The men's squad placed 27th out of 51 completing teams with a total of 797 points, while the women finished 43rd overall with 1,298 points. Both teams sat out their top seven runners in preparation for next week's NCAA DIII NE Qualifying Meet.

On the men's side, senior Michael Martin led the way with a time of 30:02, while sophomore Daniel Fournier added a time of 30:15 over the 8K layout. Junior Brandon Hannon turned in a time of 30:39, while sophomore Alex Napolitan followed with a time of 30:39.

Newcomer Austin Landress put forth a solid time of 31:05, while freshman Joseph Chamberlin and sophomore Ryain MacLean rounded out the top Falcon efforts for the men with times of 33:09 and 34:39 respectively.

For the ladies, sophomore Bridget Diggins paced the Falcons with a time of 28:54, while senior Ebony Schuerman notched a time of 30:01 over the 6K course. Junior Grace Morrissey posted a time of 32:19, while sophomore Cassie Lavallee added a time of 32:20

Rounding out Fitchburg State's top efforts on the women's side were sophomore Alyssa Cardosa and senior Alexis Podedworny, registering times of 33:22 and 36:08 respectively.

Members of the Fitchburg State men's and women's cross country team will be in action again next weekend as they compete at the DIII NE Regional Qualifier at Harkness State Park in Waterford, Conn. at 11 am.
