Falcons Claim MASCAC Men’s Cross Country Championship

Amaral named MXC Runner of the Year; Jellison selected Coach of the Year

Westfield, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's cross country team captured the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's cross country championship this afternoon after placing first overall with a total of 30 points at Stanley Park.

How It Happened

The Falcons were led by senior Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mass.), who placed first overall with a time of 25:41.37, en-route to being named MASCAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year, while classmate Jake Hastings (Phillipston, Mass.) followed in third with a time of 26:19.40 over the 8K layout.

Junior Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) was next the Falcons, placing fourth with a time of 26:42.61, while fellow junior Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) entered the chute with a time of 27:03.40.

Rounding out the top efforts for Fitchburg State were newcomer Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) 27:27.72), junior Stephen McCall (Brockton, Mass.) (27:44.92) and senior Mark Tonelli (Ayer, Mass.) (28:11.42).
