Amaral and Hastings guide Falcons to 12th place finish

Gorham, Maine. – The Fitchburg State University men's cross country team returned to action this weekend, placing 12th overall at the 2017 NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Southern Maine this afternoon.

How It Happened

Senior Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mass.) lead the way for the Green and Gold, placing 14th overall with a time of 25:46.4, while classmate Jake Hastings (Phillipston, Mass.) notched a time of 26:31.2 over the 8K layout.

Junior Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) was next for the Falcons, posting a time of 26:46.5, while fellow junior Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass.) junior Stephen McCall (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman Jacob Movsessian (New Ipswich, N.H.) rounded out the top performances for Fitchburg State with times of 27:01.6, 28:24.5 and 29:20.3 respectively.

Inside the Numbers

Fitchburg State placed 18rd overall at last year's NCAA DIII NE Regional Championship Meet with a total of 576 points.

For Fitchburg State it was the best finish at the NCAA DIII New England Cross Country Regional Championships in the past 20 years.

MIT won the 2017 NCAA DIII New England Regional Cross Country Championship Meet after registering 81 points.

Junior Sam Brunnette (Newport, Vt.) of Plymouth State University took top honors at this afternoon's meet after crossing the finish line in a time of 25:22.8.
