Falcons Compete At All-New England’s & James Early Memorial Invite

Movsessian and Ortwein lead the way for Fitchburg State 

Westfield, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's cross country team competed at both the 2018 All-New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston as well as at the 2018 James Early Memorial Invitational, hosted by Westfield State University this afternoon.

How It Happened

At the 2018 All-New England Championships, Fitchburg State was led by sophomore Jacob Movsessian (Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic), who placed 61st overall with a time of 26:13.9, while senior Joseph Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) followed with a time of 27:25.5 over the 8K course..

Senior Anthony Darrigo (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) was next into the chute, turning in a time of 27:44.7, while sophomore Timothy Sheehy (Wakefield R.I./South Kingstown) crossed the line in at 28:31.6. Senior Stephen McCall (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) rounded out the top finishers for the Green and Gold at 40:01.6.

At the 2018 James Early Memorial Invite, sophomore Anthony Ortwein (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) paced the Falcons with a time of 28:52.97, while classmate Joe Weston (Middleton, Mass./Mascomomet Regional) followed with time of 30:16.12 over the 8K layout.

Junior Brandon DiGregorio (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) and sophomore Andrew Hill (Templeton, Mass./Mahar Regional) rounded out the top finishers for the Falcons on the afternoon with times of 30:46.16 and 31:00.03 respectively.

Inside the Numbers

Fitchburg State finished in 22nd place with a total of 607 points at last year's James Early Memorial Invite.

Boston College claimed first place at the 2018 All-New England Championships with a total of 27 points

Senior Leakey Kipkosgei (Kapsabet, Kenya/Kapsengere) of American International College finished first overall at the 2018 All-New England Championships with a time of 24:08.8.

Fitchburg State finished in 20th place with a total of 523 points at last year's All-New England Championships.

Trinity College captured first place at the 2018 James Early Memorial Invite after amassing a total of 64 points.

Senior Sam Brunnette (Newport Center, Vt./North Country Union) of Plymouth State took top honors at the 2018 James Early Memorial Invite with a time of 25:08.60.
