Falcons rally for 5-4 victory in game one; fall 6-3 in nightcap
FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 25, 2009) - The Fitchburg State softball team battled MASCAC rival Framingham State College to a 1-1 spilt this afternoon. The Falcons edged the Rams, 5-4 in game one before dropping the nightcap 6-3.

Fitchburg State's offense was led by senior Eryne Cotter (North Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) who went 1-for-3 with homerun, scoring one run and driving in three. Classmate Alicia Rocco (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) was also solid for the Falcons, going 2-for-3 with two base-hits and two RBI.
Senior Sarah Douillette (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet) led the Framingham State attack, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, one run scored and one RBI, while classmate Elizabeth Ranton (Milton, Mass./Milton) added a 2-for-3 performance, with a double and one RBI.
Framingham State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second as Christy Ulak (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) connected for an RBI single but the Falcons quickly responded, with two run in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. Rocco led the Falcon rally with a two-out, two RBI single to right center, while freshman Ashley McKinnon (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) belted a double.
The Rams answered right back in the fourth frame, plating two run on an RBI triple by Kelsey Curley (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) and an RBI double by Ranton. The Falcons continued to battle in the bottom half of the inning as Cotter connected for her first collegiate homerun, a three run shot to left center, putting Fitchburg State on top 5-3.
Rookie hurler Allison Cousins (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) picked up her third victory of the season, pitching the complete game, allowing four runs (three earned) and striking out one. Freshman Alysia Morrisette (Ware. Mass./Ware) took the loss for the Rams, going six innings, while allowing five runs on six hits and striking out four.

In game two, Framingham State pounded out 14 hits en-route to a 6-3 victory. The Rams were led by senior Colleen Clancy (Lynn, Mass./St Mary's) who went 3-for4 at the dish with a pair of runs scored. Aiding the offense was senior Katelyn Pacheco (Acushnet, Mass./New Bedford) and junior Megan Dumas (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) each went 1-for-3 while driving in two.
Fitchburg State received a solid game from junior Leigh Trzcinski (Worcester, Mass./South) who notched three hits in the contest, while sophomore Karen Skoczylas (Palmer, Mass./Palmer) hit 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Framingham State got on the score board early again, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Ulak ignited the scoring with sacrifice fly while Pacheco tallied an RBI single. Again, Fitchburg State battled, knotting the score at 2-2 with single runs in the third and fourth frames. Skoczylas posted a run scoring double, while McKinnon belted an RBI base-knock. The rally was short-live however as Framingham State secured the victory with a pair of runs in the fifth and seventh inning.
Pacheco earned the victory in the circle for the Rams going 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out four. Sophomore Bethany Stone (Wells, Maine/Wells) took the loss for the Falcons, pitching the complete game, allowing six runs on 14 hits and striking out two.
Fitchburg State wraps up its 2009 season with an overall record of 5-27 and a 2-10 mark in the MASCAC. Framingham State (11-25, 8-4 MASCAC) await it's seeding in the upcoming MASCAC tournament.
