Worcester State scored five runs on six hits in the opening contest of the afternoon, picking up their 20th win of the season with a 5-1 victory.

Junior Lauren Besozzi (Milford, Mass./Milford) led the Lancers, hitting 2-for-3 with a triple and a three RBI, while sophomore Kylene Pease (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) finished 1-for-2, with a double, two runs scored and one RBI.

Worcester State wasted no time getting on the board, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening frame fueled by a Fitchburg State, two-out scoring error. The Lancers padded their lead in the fourth on a two-run triple from Besozzi's two-run triple before capping their scoring with a pair of runs in the sixth inning.

Fitchburg State broke its scoring silence in the bottom of the frame as senior Lauren Donell (Ayer, Mass./Ayer) doubled and pinch runner Alycia McGrail (N. Brookfield, Mass./N. Brookfield) would come around to score on a wild pitch.

Senior Michaella Mahoney (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) picked up the win for the Lancers, allowing only one run on two hits. Junior Allison Cousins (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) took the loss for the Falcons, yielding five runs (two earned) on six hits and three K's.

Donell and senior Karen Skoczylas (Palmer, Mass./Palmer) notched the lone hits for Fitchburg State.
