Fitchburg State Clips Keystone College, 6-4

Cyrus, Gemma and Whiting lift Falcons to non-conference victory

FITCHBURG, Mass. (March 14, 2014) – The Fitchburg State Softball team closed out its 2014 South Carolina trip this afternoon by defeating Keystone College, 6-4 in non-conference softball action at the North Myrtle Park and Sports Complex.

Fitchburg State scored six runs on eight hits as the Falcons concluded their 2014 Myrtle Beach spring trip with a 6-4 victory over the Giants of Keystone College this afternoon at the North Myrtle Park and Sports Complex to even their record at 4-4-0.

The Falcons offense was led by sophomore Tori Cyrus (Everett, Mass.) who finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and one run scored, while classmate Marissa Gemma (Leominster, Mass.) aided the offensive charge with a triple and an RBI.

For Keystone, sophomore Katie Marro (Canadensis, Penn.) hit 2-for-4 with a with a solo homerun and one RBI, while newcomer Sarah Stacey (Shickshinny, Penn.) went 2-for-3 at the dish with a run batted in.

In the circle, junior Brittany Whiting (Sharon, Mass.) went the distance for Fitchburg State, allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out 11 to earn the victory, while junior Sara Schraden (Allentown, Penn.) took the loss for the Giants, yielding four runs on five hits (3 K's) in three innings of relief.

Fitchburg State (4-4, 0-0 MASCAC) returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts the Engineers of WPI for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
