Softball Collects Pair Of MASCAC Weekly Honors

Kerr selected Pitcher of the Week; Sylvestre named Rookie of the Week

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Junior pitcher Galen Kerr was recently tabbed Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week, while freshman pitcher/outfielder Kaylee Sylvestre earned MASCAC Softball Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Kerr collects her first weekly accolade of the season after posting an ERA of 0.61 with 26 strikeouts over 23 innings of work, en-route to a 3-1 record. The second-year Falcon allowed just one hit and 11 K's in a 2-0 shutout win over Curry College on Wednesday before pitching a complete game, five hitter (11 K's) in a 2-0 victory against Plymouth State on Thursday. Galen concluded the week, allowing just four hits with five K's in a 3-0 game two triumph over MCLA on Saturday.

Sylvestre earns her second straight weekly honor on the season after registering an ERA of 1.07 with 23 K's in 19.2 innings of work for the Falcons. The freshman hurler gave up just two runs with nine strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work in a no decision against Curry on Wednesday before following that up with a complete-game five hitter (5 K's) in a 2-1 win against Plymouth State on Thursday. Wrapped up the week, yielding one unearned run on just three hits and nine strikeouts in a 1-0 setback to MCLA on Saturday.

The Fitchburg State softball team (15-11, 5-3 MASCAC) returns to action on Thursday as it hosts the Bison of Nichols College for a non-conference double header, starting at 3 p.m.
