Softball Earns Three MASCAC All-Conference Honors

Sylvestre tabbed MASCAC Rookie of the Year; GIldea and Kerr named to MASCAC All-conference second team

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Freshman Kaylee Sylvestre led all Fitchburg State honorees after being tabbed Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Rookie of the Year, while junior Galen Kerr and sophomore Katie Gildea were named to the MASCAC All-Conference second team.

Sylvestre witnessed a breakout freshman campaign for the Falcons, posting an ERA of 3.01 with 96 strikeouts in 111.2 innings of work, while registering an overall record of 9-7 in 20 appearances as well as hitting .266 (17-for-64), including three doubles, three RBI, nine runs scored and one steal.

Gildea collects her first MASCAC All-Conference accolade after hitting .314 with two doubles, ten runs batted in, nine runs scored in 36 games, while Kerr also notches her first MASCAC All-Conference honor, registering an ERA of 2.54 with a team-best 96 K's and an overall record of 10-10 with two saves in 118.1 innings pitched, while hitting .200 with an RBI and three runs scored in limited action.

The Fitchburg State softball team returns to action on Thursday as it hosts the Vikings of Salem State University in opening round action of the 2016 MASCAC Softball tournament at Coolidge Park for a contest starting at 4 p.m.
