Five Falcons Collect MASCAC Softball All-Conference Honors

Johnson, Pietersen, Lambert, Harnois & MacDonald earn MASCAC Accolades

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University softball team placed five members on the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference Teams as announced by the conference office this morning.

Leading the way for the Falcons was freshman Audrey Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.), who earned MASCAC All-Conference First Team honors after hitting .372 with 35 hits, seven doubles, three home runs, 16 runs scored and 28 RBI in 38 games for the Green and Gold.

Junior McKenzie Lambert (Wilbraham, Mass.), sophomore Mikayla Harnois (Attleboro, Mass.) and newcomer Olivia Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) were selected to the MASCAC All-Conference Second Team, while head coach Merry MacDonald was named the 2019 Champions Choice Softball Coach of the Year as voted on by the league's eight coaches.

Lambert witnessed a break out junior campaign after tying the Falcons single season hits record with 51 base knocks, while setting a new single season program record with 90 total bases in addition to 40 runs scored, 16 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 36 RBI.

Harnios was also solid for the Green and Gold, leading the team in win with 13, while posting an ERA of 2.67 with 46 strikeouts in 105 innings of work as well as hitting .397 on 31 hits, including nine doubles, 20 runs scored and 12 RBI.

Joining Lambert and Harnios on the MASCAC All-Conference Second Team was Pietersen, who posted a .347 batting average with 41 hits, seven doubles, two triples, 22 runs scored and 25 RBI. Rounding out the Fitchburg State honorees was MacDonald, who guided the Falcons to fourth seed in the MASCAC Softball Post-Season Tournament after the Fitchburg State Softball team broke the program record for most regular season wins (24), while also tying the program record for most wins in a season (26).

In addition, MacDonald recently recorded her 100th career coaching victory this past season with a double header sweep over Massachusetts Maritime Academy on March 30, 2019.

The Fitchburg State softball team recently concluded its 2019 campaign with an overall record of 26-16 and an 8-6 mark within the MASCAC
