Fitchburg State To Host Seventh Annual “Play 4Kay” Game

Falcons join fight against breast cancer on Tuesday February 17th

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's and women's basketball teams will be hosting its seventh annual WBCA Play 4Kay Event on Tuesday, February 17th as the Falcons host the Lancers of Worcester State University in a men's and women's basketball MASCAC doubleheader, starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.

Coach Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. With the creation of the Fund, Coach Yow hoped to raise money to further cutting-edge research conducted by the nation's top doctors and medical experts to allow more and more cancer patients to have access to experimental drugs and clinical trials. Since the majority of these research projects are privately funded, these researchers desperately need our support in order for them to continue to make strides in finding a cure for cancer.

To date, the Fund has contributed over $3.9 million in support of women's cancer research. Due to our unique partnership with The V Foundation, we utilize their Scientific Advisory Board to ensure your donations support the cancer research projects with the most potential. Thus, grant recipients funded by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund have remarkable standing within the scientific community.

This year, Fitchburg State will be one of numerous teams and organizations participating in the 2014-15 Play 4Kay Event. All fans are encouraged to wear pink this Tuesday as Fitchburg State and the WBCA team-up to join the fight against breast cancer. All proceeds from the gate will be donated to the WBCA's charity of choice, the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund in partnership with The V Foundation.

In addition to the Play 4Kay game, the Fitchburg State men's soccer team will be unveiling their 2014 MASCAC soccer post-season championship banner during halftime of the men's basketball game.

For those who cannot make Tuesday's festivities, all "Play 4Kay" activities, including the Falcons live basketball action will be available via the web at http://www.mascac.tv. provided by EZ Stream. All webcasts give Falcon fans the opportunity to view live video and audio feeds, including play-by-play announcing and commentary for all home events.
