Fitchburg State Upended By Clark, 76-31

Schneider and Keohan combine for 18 points in Falcons non-conference setback

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Fitchburg State women's basketball team opened its 2015-16 home slate this evening dropping a 76-31 decision to the Cougars of Clark University in non-conference action at Parkinson Gymnasium.

Senior Erika Schneider played the bulk of the game, leading the Falcons with 13 points and three rebounds during her 35 minutes on the court. She did most of her work from the charity, sinking 7-of-12 shots from the free throw line, while newcomer Hannah Keohan finished with five points, five caroms, one assist and block.

Freshmen center Ogechi Ezemma led the Cougars off of the bench scoring 14 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the field and bringing down three rebounds, while freshman Kacey Legare registered nine, four boards, two assists and a steal on the evening.

During the first 10 minutes of play Legare led her team out of the gates scoring six of her nine in the early goings before racing out to 17-3 advantage after one quarter of play. In the second frame, the Cougars extended its margin (33-3) with a 16-0 run before Keohan converted an offensive rebound with a put back layup.

Following half, the Green and Gold cut into the deficit as Schneider posted six of her 13 points in the stanza, while senior forward Stephanie Leveillee collected a pair of buckets. Keohan also knocked down a three pointer to make the score 57-24 after 30 minutes of play.

Sharing the ball became a major theme throughout the game for Clark University as the Cougars had a total of 21 assists during their victory. They also enjoyed a multitude of scoring options as 13 different players combined for 48 points off the bench.

The visitors secured its second win on the season, ending the contest on a 13-0, keyed by sophomore Dominique St. Pierre five points, while freshman Emmi Graebner collected a pair of buckets.

Fitchburg State was limited to just 19.3% (11-for-57), while knocking down eight of its 14 shots from the charity stripe (57.1%). The Cougars shot a stellar 50.0% (32-for-64) for the field and 7-for-13 (53.8%) from the free throw line. Clark also held a 48-37 advantage on the boards.

The Green and Gold (0-3, 0-0 MASCAC) are back in action on Thursday November 19th as they will host Rivier College in a non-conference contest at 5:30 p.m. Clark University (2-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) return to the hardwood on Friday November 20th, as they are set to host Connecticut College at 7:00 p.m.
