Suffolk Soars Past Fitchburg State, 66-30

Leveillee and Keohan combine for 14 points and ten rebounds for Falcons

BOSTON, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's basketball team was in action this evening, dropping a tough 66-30 decision to the Rams of Suffolk University in non-conference women's basketball action at Regan Gym.

Suffolk took a 6-1 lead early in the contest on a jumper and free throw from junior Chelsea Campellone and trey by classmate Kelsey Schebel just 2:18 into the contest before the two teams traded buckets through the remaining eight minutes of the frame as the Rams led 16-8 after one quarter of play.

The hosts upped its margin, going on a 12-2 run to open the second quarter as senior Georgia Bourikas knocked down a layup as well as draining a three pointer, while Schebel, sophomore Sandra Quadri and freshman Megan Conner connected on baskets, en-route to taking a 37-13 advantage into the break.

Midway through the third quarter, Fitchburg State cut into the deficit (42-21) as senior forward Stephanie Leveillee sank four free throws before the Rams ended the stanza on a 6-2 run on baskets by Campellone, Bourikas and freshman Alexandra Nagri for the 49-23 lead.

In the final quarter of play, Suffolk secured its fourth win on the season with a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter on a pair of baskets from Nagri and three pointer by Bourikas, resulting in the 66-30 final.

Fitchburg State was led by Leveillee, who posted eight points and six caroms, while freshman Hannah Keohan registered six points, four rebounds and one steal. Sophomore Michaela McTomney was also solid off the bench, collecting four points, nine boards, one assist, two blocks and a steal.

Campellone paced the Rams offense, notching a double-double of 16 points, 13 boards and one assist, while Bourikas totaled 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists and five steals for Suffolk Unvierstiy.

Throughout the contest, Fitchburg State shot just 18.0% (9-for-50) from the field, including 2-for-8 (25.0 %) from beyond the arc. Suffolk finished 35.3% (24-of-68) overall and 8-for-23 (34.8%) from three point range. The Rams also controlled the glass, registering a 51-40 margin in rebounds, including a 20-14 edge on the offensive end.

Fitchburg State (0-9; 0-0 MASCAC) return to the hardwood on Saturday as it hosts the Lasers of Lasell College for a contest starting at 1 p.m. Suffolk (4-2, 0-0 GNAC) will visit Framingham State University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
