Rose Garners MASCAC and NEWBA Women’s Basketball Rookie Of The Week Honors

Rockland, Mass. native earns eighth weekly accolade of the season 

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State freshman guard Kyra Rose was tabbed both Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) and New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Rose picks up her sixth straight and eighth overall weekly honor of the 2016-17 campaign after averaging 20.7 points, nine rebounds, three assists, 2.7 steals and 1.7 blocks per contest in three games for the Green and Gold. The fresh guard registered a double-double of 36 points and 13 rebounds to go along with five assists, three steals and two blocks in a 94-89 overtime win over Dean College on Monday before adding nine points, four caroms, two assists and one steal in a setback to Framingham State on Wednesday evening.

Kyra concluded the week, posting a double-double of 17 points and ten rebounds as well as two assists, four steals and three blocks in a loss to Westfield State on Saturday afternoon.

The Fitchburg State women's basketball team (8-10, 1-6 MASCAC) returns to action on Tuesday as it travels to Lasell College to take on the Lasers a 7 p.m.
