Thomson nets season-best 22 points to lift Falcons to non-conference victory 

Bennington, Vt. – The Fitchburg State University women's basketball team defeated the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College, 101-58 in non-conference action at the Mountaineer Athletic Center this evening.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State was led by sophomore guard Emma Thomson (York, Maine) with a team-leading 22 points, four rebounds, one steal and one block, while senior Michaela McTomney (Bellingham, Mass.) chipped in with 12 points, four caroms and one block. Freshman Chloe Roberts (Hanson, Mass.) put forth a solid effort off the bench for the Green and Gold, adding 11 points, two boards, one assists and one steal.

For Southern Vermont, junior guard Maddy Main (Bennington, Vt.) finished with a game-best 23 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and one block, while sophomore Taylor Mallett (Berwick, Maine) collected 12 points, seven boards, two assists and one steal. Sophomore Sarah Poirier (Ferrisburgh, Vt.) closed out the top efforts for the Mountaineers, registering nine points, seven caroms, one assist, two steals and two blocks.

Inside the Numbers

Fitchburg State shot 39-for-89 (43.8%) from the field and 35.5% (11-of-31) from three point range.

Southern Vermont finished 18-for-61 (29.5%) overall, including (6-of-23) 26.1% from beyond the arc.

The Falcons held a 59-43 advantage on the glass, while turning 31 turnovers into 18 points.

This evening's contest marked the first ever meeting between the two schools on the basketball court.
