Marazzi, Mitchell and Holmes combine for 31 points in MASCAC setback
Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's basketball team dropped a 101-56 decision to the Owls of Westfield State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening at the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened
Fitchburg State opened the scoring with a three ball from sophomore Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, N.H.) before Westfield State answered back on a trey by freshman Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass.) (3-3).
The Owls took the lead, going on a 10-0 run, capped by three pointer from graduate student Alyssa Darling (Palmer, Mass.) before the Falcons retied the contest late in the frame on jumper by senior Mercy Frimpong (Worcester, Mass.) (20-20).
In the second frame, Westfield State regained the lead after going on a 13-3 streak, highlighted by three-pointers from junior Allison Hester (Sutton, Mass.), classmate Kierra McCarthy (Ludlow, Mass.) and junior Lucy Barrett (Williamstown, Mass.) for the 35-25 margin. With the score 51-32, Fitchburg State closed out in the first half as freshman Mishelle Logie (Attleboro, Mass.) connected a layup as time expired to make the score 51-34 going into the break.
Following the intermission, the Green and Gold cut the lead to 58-38 as newcomer Mikaela Mitchell (Millbury, Mass.) and senior Michaela McTomney (Bellingham, Mass.) converted layups before the Owls upped its advantage (70-42) as freshman Taina Slaghter (Springfield, Mass.) drained a three-ball.
In the final quarter of play, following a basket from Hester that extended Westfield State's lead to 86-50, Fitchburg State responded as freshman Payton Holmes (Carver, Mass.) buried a three-ball, but the Owls secured the win on a bucket by freshman Courtney McCurry (Vernon, Conn.), resulting in the 101-56 final.
Inside the Numbers
Fitchburg State shot 21-of-66 (31.8%) from the field and 25.0% (8-for-32) from three point range.
Westfield State went 37-of-92 (40.2%) overall, including (13-for-44) 29.5% from beyond the arc.
The Falcons were led by Marazzi with a team-leading 12 points and seven rebounds, while Mitchell added 11 points and six caroms.
For the Owls, Gray finished with a game-best 17 points and five boards, while McCarthy chipped in with 14 points and two rebounds.
Fitchburg State controlled the glass with a 59-49 margin on the boards, while Westfield State held a 55-27 advantage in bench points.
